The Concept

Frontier models hold general intelligence. Your enterprise needs institutional intelligence.

Frontier intelligence is the knowledge, judgement and procedure of a single enterprise, accumulated by its own people and agent workflows, operating above the model and supplying what the model has no way to know.

A frontier model is trained on general data. It arrives with broad capability and no knowledge of a specific enterprise, so each question begins from nothing: read the context, infer the rules, attempt the computation, write the answer. This sequence runs identically for every organisation that asks.

That is the correct design for general intelligence and the wrong economics for institutional work. The enterprise already holds the context, the rules and the prior decision. Paying a frontier model to rediscover them on every query is a primary source of waste in enterprise AI, and it is why the same question can return different answers on different occasions.

Frontier intelligence inverts that arrangement. The knowledge sits in the enterprise layer. The model is asked only for the reasoning step it performs best.

Definition

Frontier intelligence

noun

The institutional intelligence of a single enterprise, accumulated by its people and its agents, that performs the context assembly, reasoning and computation a frontier model would otherwise attempt inside itself.

Where the work happens

The same four stages run in both architectures. What changes is where each one is carried out, and what you pay to carry it.

Context

Frontier Model Alone

Everything is pushed into the window and parsed in the model on every call

With SuperBrains

Your Brain selects, resolves and compresses. Only what matters reaches the model

Reasoning

Frontier Model Alone

General reasoning, re-derived from nothing each time, with no memory of your firm

With SuperBrains

Your institutional reasoning already sits in the layer: policy, precedent, procedure, prior decisions. The model performs the final step only

Computation

Frontier Model Alone

Attempted inside the model, probabilistically, with no audit trail

With SuperBrains

Executed in the layer: queries, calculations, rules, graph traversal. Deterministic, repeatable, auditable

Language

Frontier Model Alone

In the model

With SuperBrains

Performed in the model, which is the step it is best suited to

Illustrative Example

A worked example

The question: "Which borrowers moved into early warning this month, and why?"

01

Your layer resolves the context

It knows what early warning means at your institution, which thresholds your credit committee set, which portfolio is in scope, and what last month’s position was. No loan book is pasted into a prompt.

02

Your layer runs the computation

It queries the book, applies your thresholds, computes the movements, and traverses related exposures across the graph. Every number is produced by code that can be re-run and audited.

03

Your layer supplies the judgement

It carries how comparable cases were treated before, which policy governs the call, and who approves it.

04

The model writes the answer

One short call, over facts that are already resolved.

The model never sees the loan book, never performs arithmetic, and never guesses a threshold.

What changes

Cost and accuracy improve for the same reason: the model is asked to do less, and only what it is good at.

The cost falls

The cost of an answer is determined by how much model reasoning is consumed and how many tokens it consumes. When the layer carries the context, the procedure and the arithmetic, what remains is a short reasoning step over pre-resolved material. That is work a small model does well, and frontier capacity is reserved for the cases that genuinely require it.

The accuracy rises

A model asked to compute will approximate; a model asked to recall a specific policy will infer. Moving computation into the layer eliminates a class of error rather than reducing its probability, and grounding reasoning in your firm’s recorded decisions removes another. The same question returns the same cited answer, because it is produced the same way each time.

Less leaves your perimeter

When context is resolved inside your layer, only the minimal resolved material reaches a model provider. Records, books and source systems stay where they are. This is a property of the architecture rather than a setting to configure.

What frontier intelligence is not

Three things it is regularly mistaken for, and why none of them is the mechanism.

Not a training run

The layer is built from operational work rather than a fine-tuning pipeline, and no part of it depends on adapting model weights. It sits above the model and transfers when the model is changed.

Not a model you must host

Your knowledge is sovereign either way. Where inference runs is your choice, including a fully air-gapped deployment where a locally deployed open-source model runs on your own GPU hardware in place of the commercial provider.

Not retrieval

Retrieval returns passages. Frontier intelligence carries memory, skills, computation, and the decisions your enterprise has already made.

What it is made of

Three pillars, accumulated from real work rather than configured up front.

Pillar 01

Knowledge

Company-wide, source-connected context from your documents and systems, so the same question returns the same cited answer.

Pillar 02

Memory

Decisions, approvals, client and workflow context, retained and reused rather than re-derived.

Pillar 03

Skills

Reusable workflow skills that execute your way of working consistently, with human approval where it belongs.

Together these are the Company Intelligence Layer. See the platform architecture →

It compounds

Every engagement, every workflow, every decision your people record makes the layer denser. Denser context means less asked of the model, which means lower cost and higher accuracy at once.

This is the one component of an AI stack that improves while reducing cost, and it is owned by the enterprise.
